Whittier Daily News asked: has the city done enough to attract new businesses? How would you make Montebello stand out from other nearby cities to attract business?
I responded:
Our city is seeing a new and incredible wave of economic activity. In the Northeast we have Metro Heights bringing in hundreds of thousands in property tax revenue, a clear line of communication with the Shops at Montebello to bring food and entertainment in the near future, and Tesla slated to be one of the largest revenue generators for the city. These new revenues turn into programming, staffing, and infrastructure improvements for the city. In the West, TopGolf’s international brand is drawing economic interest region wide. In central Montebello the Adventist Health Ad Hoc Committee comprised of their staff, city staff, the Mayor Pro Tem and myself, are strategizing how to make the medical campus and surrounding properties a new center for activity along with Downtown Montebello down the road. In the South we are talking to property owners about consolidating disparate parcels for a grand economic vision at the intersection of Greenwood and Washington. These projects have been possible with the focused intent of my colleagues and myself answering the question “how do we make our city a place to eat, shop and play?”
If re-elected, I would continue to answer that question with policies that support budding entrepreneurs to get into vacant spaces, support new businesses that have taken a chance on pursuing their dream of entrepreneurship in our city, and making sure that those longtime businesses who have been the heart and soul of our community for decades enjoy the prosperity this new activity brings.
